Searching for people that aren't in my friend list?

Question arising: Bit dumb question, but since Facebook has many 'see who visited your profile' apps am curious.... If I search for people that aren't on my friend list, can these people ever find out I have been searching for them/visiting their profile? See: How do I Reactivate Facebook Account?
