It's Not What You Know, But Who You Are: By Temitope Adebayo

There exists a narrative across all platforms of social media about the post COVID-19 world, which as some say going to change the way people do things especially in business, work and career. As far as this much is true, we all need to look at the history of mankind and how disruptions where made. Who this disruptions helped and who it affected. This is important because the world has faced so many life changing situations over the years, the various shift of power, the epidemics, the wars, technology innovations etc.

One thing remains and still stands is there will be a rise and fall of power and control, but most importantly man will never change. The say way men were born is the same way men are going to be born.
The same tendencies, the same traits, the same psychology etc.

Why is this important to you, everyone is talking about the next best thing to make you rich or successful, and there are so many ways that people over the years have gotten and amassed wealth.
If someone said 25 years ago that there will be someone almost 2x Richer than Bill Gates we would not believe. We all would have thought no, not possible. But today we Have Jeff Bezos who started his business 19 years after Bill Gates. What does this mean, there is no sure way of getting rich or being successful it’s not Tech, Oil, Gold, Data, Sports etc. there is no sure way.

But people seem to be putting so much pressure on people to learn this, learn that, Forex, Bitcoin, Trading, Design, Programming etc. And I say NO!!, again and again NO!!!.
Don’t get sad or depressed about which skill you have and don’t have. What we need to be teaching people is to be better person, human beings and not learn this skill and that skill.

We need young men and women, that are loyal, smart, trust worthy, dependable, respectful, obedient, teachable, caring, committed, that persevere, dream, optimistic, that can sacrifice, humble, intelligent, faithful, and for me God fearing.

If you look through this list you will not see, Forex, Real Estate, Oil and Gas, Power, Banking, Law, Business, Tech, etc.

These are not what make people successful if it was, then only people from a certain field will be successful.
So, my charge to you as a young person or a professional it’s not about what you know or can do, take example sport Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are regarded as the greatest players of maybe all time.

But they are not the fastest, quickest, most skillful, strongest, tallest, they are nothing, all they do is play the ball every single match, show up and give that extra 20% day in day out. And today their names will never be forgotten.

I see post from different sources pay 5K and learn this, pay 50K and learn this so on and so forth and I bleed in my heart, is this what the longing for success has turned people into. If you do not do online course now during this lockdown you are a failure, if you don’t get a certificate you are wasting time, if you don’t learn a new skill you are not growing.

I am not in any way bashing this school of thoughts but life is more than just what you know, Zuckerberg is not the best programmer in the world, Dangote is not the best anything, Kylie Jenner the youngest billionaire in the world is not the  finest girl in the world so why do you think it is a skill or certificate that will make you successful No.

Work on being those above-mentioned traits as a person. Be Good, Show Up, respect your Boss, don’t cheat People, Work Hard, Be nice to people, be a Loyal Friend, Be teachable, be Humble and Improve the lives of the people around you. I have So Many Skills but I know it is who I am and what I stand for that will get me to where I am going to.

People will not necessarily remember what you know or what skill you have, what they will remember is how you made them feel and what kind of person you are.

Work on being and not having.
