Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals Are Canceled Due To Coronavirus

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is canceling its 2020 national finals, citing "uncertainty around when public gatherings will be possible or advisable." Here, Erin Howard, center, is cheered by her fellow co-champions during last year

Organizers say they considered several ways to hold the national finals in a "virtual" environment, before deciding it wasn't feasible.
